Animal Eye Center
The Loomis Local - MAY 2025
Animal Eye Center is a small veterinary practice dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and surgery of eye diseases in animals. Established in 1993 and located in the heart of Rocklin, the center is committed to providing the most advanced medical and surgical care while fostering strong communication with clients and referring veterinarians. Their team of board-certified veterinary ophthalmologists has undergone an additional four to five years of specialized training beyond veterinary school, ensuring expert care for every patient.
Dr. Sydney Edwards, the owner of Animal Eye Center, lives in Rocklin with her husband Brian, their two children, Theo (5) and Oliver (2), and their beloved pets, dog Bud Ogee and cat Peeper. Growing up with a father who owned his own business, Dr. Edwards was inspired to follow in his entrepreneurial footsteps. She wanted to build a workplace where she would want to be an employee, creating an environment that prioritizes exceptional patient care and a culture of respect for both staff and clients. Owning a small, privately held business allows her to uphold these values and provide the highest level of care.
Originally from Charlotte, NC, Dr. Edwards attended North Carolina State University (NCSU) for her undergraduate, graduate, and veterinary degrees. She then completed a one-year rotating internship in surgery and medicine at Ohio State University before securing an ophthalmology residency at UC Davis. After spending time practicing in Charlotte, she returned to California for a one-year clinical instructor position at UC Davis, initially considering a career in academia. However, private practice proved to be her true calling, leading her to join Animal Eye Center in Rocklin alongside Dr. Lana Linton. In January 2023, she seized the opportunity to purchase the practice, taking ownership and continuing its legacy of specialized care.
With only a limited number of veterinary ophthalmologists in the country, Animal Eye Center provides a vital service, offering advanced treatments such as cataract and glaucoma surgery, along with comprehensive care for a wide range of ophthalmic conditions. The team takes pride in their exceptional client communication, prompt diagnoses, and same-day emergency visits, ensuring that every pet receives the best possible care.
Looking ahead, Animal Eye Center remains dedicated to serving the pets in our area and beyond. With existing locations in Chico and Placerville, they plan to expand further by opening satellite clinics in surrounding areas. This will allow them to better accommodate existing clients while reaching new ones, ensuring that more pets receive the specialized ophthalmic care they need.
