Steven Erkel is the driving force behind Erkel Law, a litigation law firm specializing in both employee and employer legal disputes. A Granite Bay resident, Steven lives with his wife Sarah, their two children—Blake and Genevieve—and their new puppy, Teddy Brisket. When he’s not hard at work, Steven can often be found on the baseball field coaching youth teams or learning to play basketball in the Johnson Ranch league.
 

Steven’s career started in some of the world’s largest law firms, where he handled some of the most high-profile cases in the U.S. However, after eight years in San Francisco and an additional year in Sacramento, he felt a strong pull to create something of his own. “It’s a lot like sports,” Steven explains. “Running a law firm is a team effort. I wanted to build something that either succeeded or failed because of the decisions I made and the individuals I surrounded myself with.” That passion for team-building and entrepreneurship led to the creation of Erkel Law in 2023.

Erkel Law is a litigation-focused law firm with an emphasis on employment-related legal claims. Roughly 90% of Steven’s practice is dedicated to representing employees in disputes with their employers. The remaining portion of his practice involves defending prominent California companies against employment claims.

One thing that makes Erkel law unique is that the firm represents both employees and employers in court. “I believe that if you only represent one side, you lose perspective,” he explains. “By understanding both sides of the issue, I can approach cases with a clearer, more balanced perspective.” Another key differentiator is Erkel Law’s “trial-ready” approach. From the moment a case is accepted, the firm prepares as though it is heading straight to trial, ensuring they are always one step ahead of the opposition. “Every decision I make is about preparing to go to court, even if I ultimately settle,” says Steven. This strategy places pressure on adversaries to keep pace, ultimately giving clients the confidence that their case is being handled with urgency and diligence.

Steven’s passion for his clients is evident in everything he does. “I represent individuals during some of the most difficult moments in their lives,” he says. “It’s an honor to guide them through the legal process.” Erkel Law was able to secure over $1.5 million dollars in recovery on behalf of clients in Erkel Law’s first year – to this day, this is one of Steven’s proudest moments.

One thing clients love most about working with Erkel Law is Steven’s personal touch. He shares his cell phone number with all his clients, ensuring that they can reach him whenever they need assistance. “When I take on a client, they’re family,” Steven shares. “They know they can always call me.”

Looking to the future, Steven has one clear goal: to involve his children in the family business. “My long-term dream is to have one, or both, of my children take over the firm when I retire,” Steven says. “I already see my daughter mimicking my phone calls with a plastic cell phone—she’d be a tough opponent!”
