What is unique about your company?

All of our employees have worked in therapeutic settings that focus on understanding the whole child. We understand child development deeply, and have dedicated our professional lives to supporting students in their learning journeys. Our focus is helping students to understand how they think and learn and to give them strategies that support them well beyond educational settings. 

How do you support students who are struggling in school?

We take a holistic approach when thinking about children and their needs. We support children and families to help their students build skills in their approach to learning. Most tutors work through a list of skills to acquire, and we teach students to problem-solve and approach novel tasks rather than teaching to the test.

What would a plan look like for a child that struggles with organization and attention? 

For students with this profile, we tend to focus on writing as a way to work on executive functioning skills. This work is done in sessions, and we meet with school-based teams to share strategies. We offer school observations to support teachers in understanding how a child thinks and learns within the classroom environment. This type of student thrives when knowing which structures to apply to different situations, and our focus is on helping them to understand the structures (and not just the content knowledge). 

Do you typically recommend summer sessions?

Although many teachers and tutoring companies recommend summer sessions, we believe that the best way for a child to spend a summer is to reset by spending time in nature at a screen-free summer camp like Hidden Valley Camp in Maine. Children who struggle with executive functioning often have incredible growth when given the opportunity to have more independence in a safe and creative environment. For students who do continue to work with us over the summer, we focus on sparking a love of learning and understanding how to approach tasks in school.
