Sacramento SPCA

The Sacramento SPCA has been a trusted resource for animal welfare in the region since its founding in 1892. Located on Florin Perkins Road in South Sacramento, the organization annually helps more than 40,000 pets and their families across the Greater Sacramento area. Whether it’s through adoption services, medical care, or educational outreach, the Sacramento SPCA provides an essential network of support for animals in need.

The mission of the Sacramento SPCA is rooted in honoring the bond between people and animals. Recognizing the ongoing demand for animal welfare services, the SPCA strives to make the biggest impact it can by providing a safe haven for animals, as well as the education and medical care necessary to keep them in homes for life.

One of the key strengths of the Sacramento SPCA is its comprehensive range of services. Beyond offering shelter to homeless animals, the organization provides crucial medical care, including spay and neuter surgeries and vaccinations. With a strong focus on preventing pet overpopulation, the SPCA has performed over 327,000 spay and neuter surgeries since 2007, making it one of the top 10 spay and neuter clinics in the nation. The organization’s commitment to low-cost and no-cost services has helped keep pets healthy and safe.

The SPCA’s  Zoe K. McCrea Animal Health Center, plays a key role in providing high-quality medical care to animals, particularly those who need extraordinary medical attention. Every Sunday, the center dedicates its resources to community cats, offering free surgeries to over 70 felines each week. Additionally, the SPCA’s Feline Spay and Neuter Fund provides free surgeries for Sacramento County cats throughout the week.

What sets the Sacramento SPCA apart from others in the animal welfare sector is its status as the only full-service, 100% nonprofit animal shelter in the region. Unlike many other organizations, the Sacramento SPCA is independent, relying solely on donations from individuals, businesses, and foundations to fund its operations. This allows all funds to stay within the local community, directly benefiting the animals and families of Sacramento.

The Sacramento SPCA remains focused on meeting the evolving needs of the animals and people in the region. The organization continues to explore ways to expand access to its low-cost services and to implement new strategies for keeping pets in their homes, rather than in shelters. With a new Chief Executive Officer, Jennifer Brent, appointed in October 2024, and support from a strong board of directors, the SPCA is dedicated to remaining a key resource for animal care and education in the Sacramento area for years to come.
