Why you should choose your contractor from the very start…

Choosing the right contractor for your project is crucial as your contractor is who will be the builder executing your project. Here are the steps you should take when looking to do any type of construction to your home and hiring a contractor.

Do your research: A referral from someone you know or trust can often be the best place to start. Otherwise when looking for the right contractor you should utilize simple tools such as Instagram, Facebook and Google. This will allow for you to see the quality of work done by the contractors that you are considering. It also provides a place for past clients to share honest reviews.

Reach out to your chosen contractor or contractors. Companies that you may be considering will have a website “contact us” form that they will want you to fill out. This gives you the opportunity to provide a description of the project that you are inquiring about. 

Have an honest conversation: Hide nothing. We often get asked “Why should we discuss the budget up front?” The answer: Your budget dictates the entire project and what is and is not feasible. Ultimately, the more up front and honest of a conversation that you are able to have will result in being able to work together as a team to accomplish your goals.

Understand their process: At Wolff Construction our process is implemented for very specific reasons. We want your project to go as smoothly as possible. Our process is often different and for good reason. We have learned that when we are able to work side by side with the project’s team, that the project is overall less stressful and more of an enjoyable process all together. We love working side by side with our clients and designers, architects etc.!

Ask your questions: It’s always okay to ask questions about the process. There are multiple layers to a construction project. If you don’t understand something, ask about it! If you need better clarification, ask about it! Your contractor should be able to answer all of your questions. 

Make your decision: We understand the importance of hiring the right contractor. Budget, timelines, life events, etc. all of them are important. Your decision should be based on all of these items plus the knowledge and experience of the contractor and overall comfort level with having this contractor in your home.
