Chapel of the Hills By Melissa Strand

When a loved one passes, families often feel as though the world has suddenly stopped. In those difficult moments, the team at Chapel of the Hills in Auburn stands beside them, offering guidance, compassion, and continued support long after the funeral service is complete.

Manager Tracie Tweet leads Chapel of the Hills with a mission rooted in dignity, respect, and heartfelt service. She believes that every family deserves to feel supported not only during a service, but throughout the entire grieving process. Under her leadership, the organization supports local initiatives and nonprofits, including the Auburn Senior Resource Fair and the Placer County Chaplaincy.

Chapel of the Hills has a long and meaningful history in the region. The funeral home traces its origins back to Auburn Undertakers, which began serving local families in 1901. The current historic building was constructed in 1935 and recently celebrated its 90th anniversary.

Today, Chapel of the Hills is widely recognized for the exceptional level of service it provides. With great reviews, families consistently praise the team for their empathy, professionalism, and thoughtful attention to personal details. From carefully chosen music and floral arrangements to customized tributes that celebrate a loved one’s unique story, the staff creates meaningful services.

For Tracie, funeral service represents a deeply personal calling and a second career dedicated to helping others during life’s most vulnerable moments. She felt drawn to the profession by a desire to honor those who have passed while supporting the loved ones left behind. Her connection to the Auburn community also made Chapel of the Hills a natural fit. Her husband, Matt, grew up in Auburn, where his father served the community as a respected local physician.

Tracie is a licensed funeral director, embalmer, and cemetery manager. In addition to managing Chapel of the Hills in Auburn, she oversees Chapel of the Pines in Placerville, both part of the Dignity Memorial network. She also shares her expertise with future professionals as an adjunct professor in the Funeral Services Education Program at American River College, where she teaches funeral law and ethics.

The team at Chapel of the Hills is composed of caring local professionals deeply rooted in the community. Their long-standing history in Placer County, commitment to excellence, extensive training, and ability to coordinate services nationwide distinguish them in the field.

Outside of her professional life, Tracie enjoys spending time with her family in Loomis, where they have lived since 2011. She and Matt are raising their three children, Haelie, a student at UC Davis, Holden, a student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and Maegan, a freshman in high school. The family shares their home with two miniature horses, affectionately referred to as their furry 300-pound front lawn ornaments.
