Viewpoint Lighting is a full-service custom outdoor lighting and audio design-build company that has spent the last 20 years refining its craft. Known for excellence in design, installation, and service throughout Northern California, the company has earned numerous certifications and awards that reflect its longstanding commitment to quality. Its mission is to enrich clients’ lives and deepen their appreciation for their own outdoor spaces through lighting and audio experiences.

Owner Andy Thomas grew up in the landscape and green industry, first helping with his father’s irrigation repair business and later working in landscape supply throughout college. After graduating, he became a sales representative for a lighting manufacturer, an experience that ultimately sparked the idea to launch his own lighting company. Thomas often says it takes “courage, ignorance, and moxie” to start a business. Inspired by his father, who ran Thomas’ Sprinkler Repair for three decades, he set out to build a company of his own, soon discovering that entrepreneurship is far more challenging than it looks.

Over the past two decades, he has grown Viewpoint Lighting from a one-person side business while he was a part-time stay-at-home father into a nationally recognized lighting firm with four full-time employees and additional seasonal staff. Thomas admits he is still surprised to find himself 20 years into the business. What he values most, and works hardest to sustain, is the retention and growth of his core employees, investing in their professional development and personal success. The Viewpoint Lighting team is known for being both professional and personable, building long-term relationships through systems designed to last.

With Viewpoint Lighting, every project receives meticulous attention, from the initial consultation and design phase to adjustments, installation, and ongoing maintenance. The team places heavy emphasis on communication, ensuring clients understand and approve every step. Clients appreciate his thoughtful design approach, which prioritizes their needs and budgets.

Viewpoint Lighting is among fewer than 100 active Certified Outdoor Lighting Designers (COLD) worldwide and one of only three in Northern California. The company has earned multiple awards at local, state, national, and international levels, and will be featured in the Masters of Landscape Lighting coffee table book set for release in Spring 2026.

Looking ahead, the company plans to pursue steady, sustainable growth, continuing to serve the loyal clients who have supported it while giving back to the community and investing in the future of the lighting industry through certification and education. As Thomas likes to say, “The bigger we get, the better Sacramento looks at night.”
